Electrified Roads may be the future Indian Roads!

Sarthak Sharma

When the world is running behind the Electric Mobility, the why should India lag behind. The automobile sector is rushing towards Electric Vehicles leaving behind the conventional combustion Engine based vehicles. As on 31/03/2015 Indian Roads were bearing the burden of approximately 21 crores of registered vehicles. Now, when the government and the automobile industries are shifting its policies in favor of  upbringing of Electric Vehicle Technology. So, the major drawback they are facing is of

  • Recharging of batteries
  • Battery Cost
The Revolution came the moment when Sweden introduced the concept of First Electrified Road.
Sweden's target of achieving independence from fossil fuel by 2030 requires 70% reduction in transport sector. They took ahead the marvelous and a revolutionary step of Electrified roads.
Whenever any Electric Vehicle is passed by such electric rails, the car releases a contact which is further connected to the charging system of batteries of EV's, the contact touches the electric rails and the batteries starts recharging.

When the vehicle gets stopped then immediately the charging disconnects. The system is able to calculate the vehicle's consumption which enables to figure out the electricity cost that is to be debited per vehicle and user.
Now in context to Indian Roads if the density of the vehicles will be same in the upcoming years and the vehicles will get transformed to Electric ones. Then this is for sure, the day is not far when Indian roads will be electrified in a same fashion as in Sweden.
The cars running on the roads will get charged simultaneously.
